Rock you like a Hurricane.

So Accuweather thinks this Hurricane Season is gonna be "competitive" with the Historic 2005 Atlantic Season, when 28 storms were named, and 15 of those became Hurricanes.

After a week-long quiet spell, Tropical Storm Ophelia is expected to form late today or tomorrow. That leaves 6 names left until, like in 2005, we run out of names and start using the Roman/Greek Alphabet. In 2005, we used up to character Zeta, as you probably recall.

There's a big difference between this year and 2005 though. Most notably, is the fact there have only been 3 Hurricanes, everything else has been Tropical Storms, some barely lasting a day like TS Nate and TS Jose. Storms that probably wouldn't have ever garnered a name ten years ago. Hurricane Irene and TS Lee have been the only storms to hit the United States, the rest have been more interested in Canada and, oddly, Europe. It's not everyday Iceland get's a Tropical Storm Warning, ya know. Contrast that with 2005 when landfalls here were almost weekly.

By storm names, yes, competitive. By strength or landfalls? Not so much. The Media gets carried away sometimes I think, looking for a good story here and there; or at times, all the time.
